Matt Reeves Slated to Return to Direct Sequel to This Year’s Smash Hit THE BATMAN

Matt Reeves Close Up

Director Matt Reeves Coming Back for The Batman Sequel

Matt Reeves has been officially set to return as the director of the upcoming The Batman sequel alongside actor Robert Pattinson who will reprise his role as Batman.

It all started for Matt Reeves when he directed the 1996 small David Schwimmer/Gwyneth Paltrow gem, The Pallbearer. That film didn’t make a lot at the box-office, but it introduced a great director who was on the rise. This year, Reeves took a whole new spin on Batman with his box-office megahit The Batman which is currently being watched by many, many viewers on HBO Max. Now, it has been confirmed that Reeves will be directing Robert Pattinson again in another chapter of The Batman in the upcoming sequel.

For a movie that opened just as the pandemic was sort of getting under control somewhat, $357 million is a great domestic total and that’s what The Batman has earned so far domestically. It scored a solid “A-” CinemaScore grade as well indicating that audiences were more than satisfied with Reeves’ new vision.

Of course, viewers who saw The Batman know The Joker could be involved with the sequel judging from the ending of the picture. He could team up with The Riddler. The possibilities are endless at this particular point in time!

Reeves co-created the popular 1990’s TV dramatic series “Felicity” for the WB. It was much adored at the time it aired and was Keri Russell’s career launching project. While Reeves’ terrifically made action pictures, War for the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes made a bundle domestically, neither one of them came close to the tremendous domestic gross of this year’s The Batman.

Let’s not take the spotlight off Robert Pattinson who had some pretty big shoes to fill when he signed on to play Batman. He proved he was more than up to the task and is coming back for the sequel to the delight of his many fans who have been following him ever since his Twilight days.

Warner Bros. declared the news of the forthcoming sequel at Monday’s CinemaCon event. Studio chief Toby Emmerich is presumably very happy with Matt Reeves’ “fresh vision,” according to a recent article in The Hollywood Reporter. We don’t know how the new sequel is going to develop, exactly, at this point but the news remains hopeful thanks to the involvement of returning filmmaker Reeves and star, Pattinson. All eyes are on the project right now hoping to see if the villains will simply be The Joker (Barry Keoghan) and The Riddler (Paul Dano) or if Reeves has something entirely different in store. Time will surely tell.
