THE BATMAN PART II (2025): James Gunn Shrugs Off Rumors About Characters Said to Be in Upcoming Sequel

Robert Pattinson The Batman

The Batman Part II Will Not Showcase Robin Or Certain Other Characters

Rumors have circulated that some major characters will be in the upcoming, The Batman Part II, but James Gunn has claimed otherwise.

It would probably not be the best idea to bring the heroic sidekick character, Robin, into the upcoming Matt Reeves sequel, The Batman Part II, given the character’s bad history in the recent cinematic world of the Caped Crusader. And, despite rumors that a version of the “Boy Wonder” could make an appearance in Reeves’ forthcoming movie, James Gunn has declared that this character will not be in the picture. Gunn stated that people were making things up regarding such assertions.

It is known that “The Penguin” series will serve as a segue into the new film which will eventually lead to the introduction of the new (and hopefully improved) DC Universe. Other characters who were circulating as potential ones to appear in the second The Batman film include some interesting villains and Robin’s alter-ego, Dick Grayson, himself. Unfortunately, Grayson is most likely not going to be appearing in the movie.

Not going to be in The Batman Part II are also Professor Pyg, Scarecrow, Hush and Clayface. Although the original The Batman from 2022 had its fair share of villainous characters, we are not sure at the present time which bad guys will be at the core of Reeves’ follow-up picture.

While Killer Croc and Mr. Freeze have been considered as potential baddies for the new film, it seems unlikely given Arnold Schwarzenegger’s poorly received Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin from 1997. The jury is still out on whether or not it would be a good idea to put that icy character in the 2025 movie.

Since Barry Keoghan’s cameo as The Joker in The Batman, that actor has gone on to receive much acclaim (including an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor for The Banshees of Inisherin) and is a dark horse candidate for a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his work in this year’s Saltburn. It would be nice to see him in the sequel although his inclusion would probably come with a big price tag.

The Batman cleaned up at the domestic box-office last year with an amazing $369 million and another $402 million internationally. That movie ran three-hours long and if the next one is at least a half hour shorter, it could stand to overthrow that picture’s impressive box-office take.

Robin Pattinson will, indeed, be back as Batman but don’t expect James Gunn to give us the answers as to what’s on the menu with the upcoming picture quite yet. Time will tell as the picture moves further into production. In the meantime, let’s stay as far away from rumors as possible so as not to confuse this very delicate matter in the DC world.
