Westworld Trailer 3

The third TV show trailer for HBO‘s Westworld (2016) is the best promo for the upcoming sci-fi TV series-to-date. What makes a great TV series is the dialogue and this series seems spot on that aspect of the production. The chief example of that is the ending scene of this trailer between Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood. The idea of an android’s mind awakening and asking if it and its creator are “old friends” was a fantastic written and realized moment.

The violence in this trailer (much of it perpetrated by Ed Harris‘s The Man in Black) and almost-nudity herald the mature aspects of Westworld. It also illustrates the differences between this series and 1973 film of the same name on which it is based.

I was surprised that children are allowed into Westworld as well as adults. Hearing the child whispering to android Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) that she was not real was great moment. It must have been a surprise to Dolores to hear that (she certainly showed it). What will be intriguing is how her cybernetic mind processes that comment.

I have not been this excited for a new TV show since The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. I am really looking forward to this series.

Westworld‘s plot synopsis: “The series is based on the 1973 film of the same name, and is set at a theme park run by very life-like androids. Unlike the film, which centered around human visitors being menaced by robot workers, the show will be from the workers’ perspective. The one-hour drama series…is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.”

Westworld also stars Steven Ogg, Timothy Lee DePriest, Jeffrey Wright, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Angela Sarafyan, Simon Quarterman Thandie Newton, James Marsden, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Eddie Rouse, Demetrius Grosse, Kyle Bornheimer, Currie Graham, and Lena Georgas.
