WONKA (2023): Hugh Grant Who Plays an Oopma Loompa in Upcoming Prequel Gets Praise from Director Paul King

Hugh Grant was Cast in Wonka For Actor’s Sarcastic Humor

Paul King, director of Wonka, has praised Hugh Grant who plays a green-haired Oompa Loompa in the film which is due out this December.

Wonka is one of the most eagerly anticipated movies coming out this December. Timothée Chalamet is toplining the Warner Bros. film’s cast but fans are expecting Hugh Grant to, not surprisingly, steal the show. The film’s director, Paul King brought Grant on board to play a green-haired Oompa Loompa and Grant’s already getting laughs in the trailer. Grant and King have worked together before in the much-adored Paddington 2, arguably one of the best reviewed movies ever made.

King helped Grant out with his characterization by going deep into the Roald Dahl book which serves as the inspiration for Wonka. Grant was ultimately cast in the role because of his tremendously popular sarcasm which is evident in some of the characters in Dahl’s books. King thinks Grant is such a funny presence that it was easy to see him as being perfect for the part.

Timothée Chalamet, in the upcoming movie’s title role, is going to bring in most of the audience for Wonka but people are going to have a great time watching Grant if the comments by King are at all accurate. Grant came on to the movie scene with Four Weddings and a Funeral and Nine Months in the mid-1990’s. These days, however, Grant is no slouch. He’s recently been seen in not one but two character roles where he was absolutely fabulous: Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. While the first movie, directed by Guy Ritchie, fizzled at the box-office domestically, the latter film was a hit with audiences who loved watching Grant in his intriguing role within that science fiction picture.

The “Oompa-Loompa” is a fun part of the Willy Wonka stories and Grant donning green hair is the perfect way to represent these truly fascinating fictitious characters in a movie blockbuster. If one thing is fairly certain, it is that (if it gets good reviews) Wonka should earn at least $100 million at the domestic box-office and cement Timothée Chalamet’s place at the top of the list of big box-office draws. Hugh Grant will be the most valuable player, though, and his fans will have a field day watching the actor have a terrific time making others laugh out loud. Credit Paul King for seeing Grant as the perfect sarcastic embodiment of the “Oompa Loompa.” Kids will certainly be going to see Wonka for the holidays and are going to be introduced to Grant’s witty sarcasm making a new generation aware of the actor’s significant talents.
