Lily James cast in Cinderella. The casting of Lily James in Cinderella (2014) answers the question of who will be playing lead character Cinderella in the Kenneth Branagh directed film. Many actresses tested for the role but Lily James won it. James will be joined in the film by Cate Blanchett, who will play Cinderella’s stepmother Lady Tremaine.

On the people behind the scenes of Cinderella: “Allison Shearmur, David Barron and Simon Kinberg are producing.”

On the origin’s of the Cinderella storyline:

“Cinderella,” or “The Little Glass Slipper”…is a folk tale embodying a myth-element of unjust oppression/triumphant reward. Thousands of variants are known throughout the world. The title character is a young woman living in unfortunate circumstances that are suddenly changed to remarkable fortune. The story was first published by Charles Perrault in Histoires ou contes du temps passé in 1697, and later by the Brothers Grimm in their folk tale collection Grimms’ Fairy Tales.

Although both the story’s title and the character’s name change in different languages, in English-language folklore “Cinderella” is the archetypal name. The word “cinderella” has, by analogy, come to mean one whose attributes were unrecognized, or one who unexpectedly achieves recognition or success after a period of obscurity and neglect.

On Lily James’ acting past:

Lily starred in Fast Girls, the 2012 movie directed by Noel Clarke centered around a group of young female athletes competing in the World Championships. Previous to this, James played the role of Korrina in Warner Brothers the Wrath of the Titans, where she appeared alongside Sam Worthington, Rosamund Pike, Toby Kebbell, Bill Nighy, Ralph Fiennes, and Liam Neeson.

Her television credits include Poppy in the fourth season of ITV’s Secret Diary of a Call Girl starring Billie Piper, the BBC production of Richmal Crompton’s Just William with Daniel Roche and the third season of popular British series Downton Abbey.
