John Tucker Must Die is Set to Get a Sequel

A hit 2006 teen comedy, John Tucker Must Die, is most likely getting a follow-up movie which is being announced some 18 years after the original.

Arielle Kebbel is producing a new picture which would serve as a sequel to John Tucker Must Die and reunite the primary cast members of the film which scored nice results at the box-office in the summer of the year in which it was released. Kebbel, herself, was a cast member of the original which was a sleeper hit at the box-office when it came out almost 20 years ago. Jesse Metcalfe, the titular John Tucker, and Sophia Bush were two of the big stars of the original and will most likely be reprising their roles in the sequel.

There have been some good words spoken about the potential script for the sequel which has been said to be “amazing.” The first film had a clever premise, and the second film certainly has had the time to follow suit with another intriguing story line that could just get fans of the original back into theaters. There’s no word, however, whether the new sequel would go straight to streaming or play in theaters like the original picture did.

Though there has been mention that some members of the original cast will be returning, there has been no assured confirmation that Penn Badgley, Ashanti, Brittany Snow, Jenny McCarthy, Amanda Crew or Taylor Kitsch will definitely be a part of the sequel. The 2006 movie revolved around a hunk named John Tucker (Metcalfe) who dates some girls simultaneously and finds out that he’s being tricked after the young ladies he cheated on turn the tables on him for his cheating ways.

John Tucker Must Die was a crowd-pleaser, for the most part, earning a “B+” CinemaScore grade which wasn’t an “A” probably because the movie had very distinct humor that served to make it different from most mainstream teenage comedies which were released around the time of the original movie. The 2006 picture made a splendid $41 million domestically on a conservative budget at the box-office, suggesting that the majority of moviegoers were quite happy with the comedy.

What John Tucker Must Die 2 would certainly do, if the script is as good as they say it is, is improve upon the first film’s current 28% Rotten Tomatoes approval score. A good soundtrack would be essential for the sequel. Though most audiences who remember the original are a bit older now, people who went to see the first film will remember it as a big summer date movie back in 2006. It was the go-to comedy for people who wanted to escape the norm of summer blockbusters that year.
