Ridley Scott‘s Alien: Covenant (2017) red band movie trailer stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, and Demián Bichir. Alien: Covenant‘s plot synopsis: “Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.”

The first thing the viewer will notice about this film is the music and cinematography. Both are effective. Here is the problem: I have completely lost faith in Scott, with regard to Alien films, after Prometheus. This film doesn’t look at though it will change may opinion. Its shiny and new. We see Aliens and Face-huggers (2oth Century Fox obviously backed off of trying to differentiate this franchise from the previous Alien franchise. No more damaging re-writes that mortally wound the finale film). Cool. And? Is that it? A new crew of people just to be killed? Its predictable.

I didn’t like Alien: Resurrection but at least it wasn’t standard fair. We had pirates, who were human traffickers, with distinctive personalities. Here, like in Prometheus, they all seem to be interchangeable.

I want to care about the characters like I cared about Ripley, Hicks, Bishop, and Newt. I hope Alien: Covenant is not a hole-ridden, new kill movie like Prometheus. I hope its good like Scott’s The Martian.

Alien: Covenant also stars Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby.
