Apple TV+ Seemingly Pulls the Plug on Sequel to Brad Pitt/George Clooney Action Film WOLFS

Wolfs Sequel May Not Happen

Though it was an immensely popular first outing, a sequel to the Brad Pitt/George Clooney starrer, Wolfs, is seemingly a “no-go” at Apple TV+.

It always felt like a “one-shot deal.” The mediocre Brad Pitt/George Clooney action/comedy, Wolfs, barely had enough juice in it for one go around let alone a second. However, the Apple Original Films release seemed like it had caught on with viewers thanks to the appeal of its stars and, even before its release, the studio appeared to be high on the project which was directed by Jon Watts. A sequel was mentioned even though the studio pulled the plug on releasing the film in a wide, substantial theatrical release. Watts has suggested that the sequel is probably not going to happen.

This may be sad news for fans of the first action picture but it makes sense to cancel the project given the fact that Clooney and Pitt would most likely demand substantial paychecks to work on the sequel. Even if they didn’t, the fact that Apple Original Films has released several financial turkeys could make bankrolling the project difficult if a profit was to be expected to be made on the sequel.

Marty Scorsese’s Oscar bait, Killers of the Flower Moon, under-performed at the box-office for Apple Original Films while Argylle and Fly Me to the Moon were something along the lines of belly-flops when considering their high budgets though all these pictures that the studio produced were mostly respectable films. The Joaquin Phoenix starrer, Napoleon, was another one of the studio’s movies that had a ballooned up budget but failed to yield significant financial profits.

George Clooney and Brad Pitt are two Oscar-winning actors and don’t have time to waste on mediocre projects. The first movie was one in my opinion but, still, it appeared the actors were having fun and if they could recapture that magical chemistry again, it may have been worth it. However, chemistry alone does not make a quality movie as evidenced by the mixed reviews that Wolfs received.

In the meantime, Jon Watts will be waiting for a new project to work on while stars Clooney and Pitt will probably be doing other things. Pitt’s big budgeted race car movie, F1, is set to make a bundle at the box-office when it is released in 2025 and may make the star’s price tag even higher which is something that may have posed a problem for Apple Original Films if they wanted to make money on Wolfs 2 instead of just producing big star vehicles.***After this article was published, Jon Watts said he pulled the plug on the sequel, not Apple TV+.
