AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM (2023): Amber Heard Will Not Be Cut From Sequel Despite Rumors

Amber Heard Hand On Heart

Amber Heard Is Not Being Replaced in Aquaman Sequel

Despite reports that surfaced on some online news outlets, Amber Heard has not been fired from her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Although news arose earlier today of Amber Heard being cut from the upcoming 2023 film, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, sources have informed Variety that Heard is not being removed from the picture. This news comes as a relief to the fans Heard has in her corner after losing in a recent defamation trial to Johnny Depp. It seemed somewhat suspect that Heard’s role would be recast as reported in an online article. That’s because Heard’s character, Mera, is still an important part of the movie. Mera is an integral part of the story line even if the actress does have reduced screen time which is a rumor which may very well be true.

It would be a tremendous injustice to the Aquaman franchise to cut Heard out of it just because she lost a case to Johnny Depp. Her personal woes with the Hollywood actor should not have any bearing on her part in the sequel to one of the biggest DC movies of all time, 2018’s Aquaman. It’s not as if Heard’s loss would affect the box-office too much being that her role was reported to have been significantly slimmed down already. With the costs of recasting and re-shooting Heard’s scenes in the upcoming sequel taken into consideration, it doesn’t seem like a logical solution to a rather minor problem.

Amber Heard, herself, has denied the accusations that she has been cut from the forthcoming sequel. She already earned her salary for the role and her scenes in the film were previously shot. Had this not been the case, it could have been argued that Heard may not have been ready emotionally to take on the role but since the work is already presumably in the can, there should be no reason to cut Heard out of the picture.

Though many believed that Heard was actually cut from the new picture based upon a couple of stories that were posted online, it is simply not true. Heard played Mera in Justice League as well. It seems for now that her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is somewhat secure at this present time. This forthcoming sequel is set to open on March 17, 2023 which is St. Patrick’s Day. Hopefully, luck will be on Heard’s side and she’ll get her 15 minutes (or less) of fame by appearing in a small portion of the highly anticipated sequel.
