Ana de Armas Marilyn Monroe Film Delayed

The release date for the Marilyn Monroe Netflix biopic Blonde, starring Ana de Armas, has been changed to an unspecified date in 2022.

Ana de Armas was supposed to be one to watch at next year’s Oscars for her turn playing Marilyn Monroe in the film Blonde but the film’s release date has been delayed. The upcoming movie, directed by Andrew Dominik, and based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, is highly anticipated and the news came as a surprise to many.

Director Dominik’s picture is a long time in the making with actresses such as Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts once involved. When up-and-coming Golden Globe nominee for Knives Out de Armas took over the part, many believed it would propel her to stardom. We’ll have to wait a little longer to find out if it will.

Blonde also stars Academy Award winner Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson and Bobby Cannavale. The movie is co-produced by Brad Pitt which is no surprise being that Pitt starred in both Dominik’s pictures, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Killing Them Softly.

Ana de Armas has been in magazines in the past for her former relationship with Ben Affleck. Her acting, however, has been highly regarded and Blonde is going to be the real test for her as a dramatic actress. Playing Marilyn Monroe worked well for Michelle Williams in 2011 leading the actress to an Oscar nomination and some were predicting de Armas to, perhaps, follow in her footsteps. It’s now anyone’s guess if the film is going to be of Oscar caliber.

Blonde has minimal dialogue in it, according to the director, which may hurt the film’s chances at achieving Oscar nods. It is well known that the Academy tends to reward pictures that are dialogue driven more. Still, de Armas cannot be ruled out as a contender even if the film has been delayed until next year.

While you wait for Blonde to be unveiled, why not check out de Armas in the latest James Bond picture? The newest Bond movie, No Time To Die, opens in October of this year. She was on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter promoting the film (which was delayed by the pandemic) in 2019.

Whether or not Cuban actress de Armas gets accolades from the Academy for her turn in Blonde, audiences are eagerly awaiting the film’s debut on Netflix. More will be reported as an exact release date for the film is officially set. Until then, mark it down on your 2022 must-see list.
