The Super Mario Bros. Movie premiered in Number One spot at the United States box office over the weekend with $146.3 Million for $204. 6 Million so far. Worldwide, the film has made over $377.6 Million.

John Wick: Chapter 4 was Second at the box office for the second week in a row with $14.4 Million (a 49% drop from last weekend) for $146.9 Million so far. Worldwide, the film has made over $268.7 Million.

AIR premiered in Third Place at the box office with $14.4 Million so far.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was Fourth at the United States box office with $13.8 Million.

Scream VI was Fifth at the United States box office with $3.4 Million for $103.9 Million so far. Worldwide, the film has made over $158.4 Million.

These films: His Only Son, Creed III, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, A Thousand and One, and Paint rounded out the top ten respectively.

Air is a 2023 American biographical sports drama film directed by Ben Affleck from a screenplay written by Alex Convery. It is based on true events about the origin of Air Jordan, a basketball shoeline, of which a Nike employee seeks to strike a business deal with rookie player Michael Jordan. The film stars Matt Damon, Affleck, Jason Bateman, Marlon Wayans, Chris Messina, Chris Tucker, and Viola Davis.

Paint is a 2023 American comedy film written and directed by Brit McAdams. The film stars Owen Wilson, Michaela Watkins, Ciara Renée, Stephen Root, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Lucy Freyer, Lusia Strus, and Michael Pemberton.

“A box office or ticket office is a place where tickets are sold to the public for admission to an event. Patrons may perform the transaction at a countertop, through a hole in a wall or window, or at a wicket.

By extension, the term is frequently used, especially in the context of the film industry, as a metonym for the amount of business a particular production, such as a film or theatre show, receives. The term is also used to refer to a ticket office at an arena or a stadium.

Box office business can be measured in the terms of the number of tickets sold or the amount of money raised by ticket sales (revenue). The projection and analysis of these earnings is greatly important for the creative industries and often a source of interest for fans. This is predominant in the Hollywood movie industry.

To determine if a movie made a profit, it is not correct to directly compare the box office gross with the production budget, because the movie theater keeps nearly half of the gross on average. The split varies from movie to movie, and the percentage for the distributor is generally higher in early weeks.

Usually the distributor gets a percentage of the revenue after first deducting a “house allowance” or “house nut”.
