CAPTAIN MARVEL (2018): Emily Blunt Addresses Casting Rumors

Captain Marvel Black Attire 01

Emily Blunt On Captain Marvel Rumors. With a recent resurgence in popularity, a controversial spin-off comic book series and the announcement of an upcoming film in the Marvel cinematic universe, 2014 has been a huge year for Captain Marvel. Long before the film’s announcement, comic book fans were are already taking to the internet in order to fantasy cast their ideal leading ladies for the role and Emily Blunt’s name keeps coming up on many of their lists. Unfortunately, Blunt herself says that these casting rumors are just that. In a recent interview with Vulture. Blunt was asked if casting about casting for Captain Marvel and had this to say,

“Oh! No one’s offered me that officially, so it’s … [laughs] very unofficial. I think it’s fan-casting, which is always very nice. But nothing official has been offered, for sure.”

This isn’t the first time that Blunt has been tied to Marvel movie casting rumors. In the same interview she was asked about being up for the roles of Black Widow and Peggy Carter and said,

“Yeah, but it was never the right time, really, and it just didn’t work out scheduling-wise with those two. It’s always a difficult thing to talk about, because it’s not fair to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just wasn’t the right time.”

Blunt proved herself as a viable action movie star while kicking ass in last summer’s under appreciated sci-fi epic, Edge Of Tomorrow and it’s only a matter of time before she gets signed as a lead in blockbuster franchise.  The upcoming Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman films will have a lot riding on them because movie studios have been hesitant to back comic book movies with female leads. If these two films fail to make a dent at the box office we could see another decade of female heroes taking a back seat. Emily Blunt possesses the combination of charisma and talent that has studios banging on  her door 24/7 and it is only a matter of time before she gets tied up with a major franchise, ideally one that would not waste her considerable talents. Marvel needs to hurry up and sign her before she gets sucked into the inevitable Tomb Raider reboot franchise.
