DISCLOSURE DAY (2026): Steven Spielberg and Emily Blunt Get Praise in Social Media Reactions to Their New Film
Disclosure Day Gets a Lot of Respect from Critics
Steven Spielberg‘s Disclosure Day has yielded excellent early social media reactions from some notable film critics.
Disclosure Day is Steven Spielberg’s latest science-fiction movie and while it may not live up to the breathtaking Close Encounters of the Third Kind, it’s certainly getting some very good early buzz circulating online from some prestigious critics.
A June 12th release from Universal Pictures, Disclosure Day runs about 2 hours and 25 minutes. It comes almost 50 years after Spielberg stunned the movie world with the brilliant Close Encounters back in 1977.
Disclosure Day stars Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth and Josh O’Connor, among others. David Koepp penned the script alongside Spielberg. Viewers of the trailer have seen (and heard) Emily Blunt delivering weird noises while on television as a meteorologist and people are certainly curious what kind of story line is going to be associated with this well-cast picture and its unusual basic premise.
Some social media reactions have declared the film “funny” while at least one other reaction hailed the film as Spielberg’s best picture in “20 years!” John Williams’ musical score seems Oscar-nomination bound as well if the comment from Bill Bria of SlashFilm holds any true weight.
Collider‘s Steven Weintraub thinks it’s a “home run” for the always formidable Spielberg. Drew Taylor of The Wrap thinks Blunt’s work in the film is “astounding” which suggests she may be due for an Oscar nomination next year, especially after her amazing recent work in The Smashing Machine.
Though it’s premature to say Disclosure Day is definitely Oscar-worthy material, the reviews suggest that it may just be that type of prestige picture we’ve been waiting for this year. We’ve seen the Steven Spielberg who brought great science fiction movies like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial to audiences. Now with at least 44 years of extra experience, he may have just made his very own science fiction masterpiece.
Tessa Smith thinks the new film is “absolutely phenomenal.” In fact, some people have declared it is a sort of The Twilight Zone for modern times.
Emily Blunt is probably due for a number of fresh acting nominations for her turn in this film, especially considering the potency of her recent work. Blunt’s turn in the new picture could just bring her back to many different award ceremonies next year if the picture catches on with the majority of critics and at the box-office.
Disclosure Day is the type of curiosity piece that drives audiences to theaters. 25 years ago, Spielberg’s A.I.: Artificial Intelligence opened and wowed critics and audiences alike. Expect Disclosure Day to be much bigger at the box-office than even that one was (it made $235 million worldwide back then when nobody really understood what artificial intelligence was).
Steven Spielberg seems to have crafted another winner and with these reactions in mind, a $50 million-plus opening weekend seems like a safe bet with good word of mouth poised to build for several weeks after the film begins playing in theaters. This film could even play all summer long!
