Thoughts on This Week’s In-home Releases

The home releases of Jesus Revolution, Triangle of Sadness, Scream VI, The Manchurian Candidate, and Evil Dead Rise are the most noteworthy releases (and pre-orders) on home video and streaming services this week.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Jesus Revolution and had this to say about the film:

This film is, in actuality, an interesting history lesson for those who weren’t there. While the movie is too long and too unfocused at times to be a wholly successful picture, it does have a lot of interesting tidbits about the events it portrays and features some very good performances.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Triangle of Sadness and had this to say about the film:

This movie wasn’t meant for a more conservative critic such as myself to fully enjoy although I must admit there were some very fascinating moments throughout. However, those who like daring originality coupled with some great performances and heavy themes even if the end result is a little lackluster, may find themselves greatly entertained by this very twisted movie.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Scream VI and had this to say about the film:

Scream VI is a good time, for certain, with a last act that is among the best in the entire Scream series. While the new film is a bit over-the-top, it’s all wild enough to keep any horror movie audience watching from beginning to end without getting bored for a second. There are too many plot twists thrown in willy-nilly but this movie is ultimately the perfect roller coaster ride.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Evil Dead Rise and had this to say about the film:

Evil Dead Rise feels like the bloodiest movie ever made. It’s also one of the most disturbing horror films of all-time. Filmmaker Lee Cronin may just be trying to outdo Sam Raimi who created the original The Evil Dead picture back in 1981. Cronin does build tension satisfactorily in his new film although if not for the last 10 or 15 minutes, I’m not sure I would have recommended the movie as much.
