Thoughts on This Week’s In-home Releases

The home releases of Knock at the Cabin, Children of the Corn, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Crown: Season 5, and Evil Dead Rise are the most noteworthy releases (and pre-orders) on home video and streaming services this week.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Knock at the Cabin and had this to say about the film:

Knock at the Cabin is not a total disappointment but it certainly boggles the mind how the film got made this way. There was a lot of potential that was squandered for a story line that should have been much more rewarding to its audience and a bit more believable too.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Children of the Corn and had this to say about the film:

While Children of the Corn is disturbingly sickening to watch in its opening stages, Moyer’s work is worth sitting through the grueling opening scenes to see. In fact, this movie will be on Shudder in a little more than a couple of weeks and, there, you can skip through some of the more horrific early moments in the film and watch the last half hour which is almost as good as horror films come.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Evil Dead Rise and had this to say about the film:

Evil Dead Rise feels like the bloodiest movie ever made. It’s also one of the most disturbing horror films of all-time. Filmmaker Lee Cronin may just be trying to outdo Sam Raimi who created the original The Evil Dead picture back in 1981. Cronin does build tension satisfactorily in his new film although if not for the last 10 or 15 minutes, I’m not sure I would have recommended the movie as much.
