Thoughts on This Week’s In-home Releases

The home releases of Plane, Missing, and Avatar: The Way of Water are the most noteworthy releases (and pre-orders) on home video and streaming services this week.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Plane and had this to say about the film:

Plane works best in its opening scenes with the tension it builds on the plane. Audiences will feel these sequences are nerve-wracking to watch but also completely absorbing. The latter scenes of the movie aren’t as good and feel pretty standard but action fans will love seeing Butler play this character and may enjoy the movie significantly more than people who don’t usually watch action pictures.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Missing and had this to say about the film:

Missing ultimately falls apart in the last twenty minutes, though. The plot twists get ridiculous and the revelations aren’t always believable. That doesn’t make the movie any less entertaining to watch, though. This film doesn’t live up to Searching which was a brilliant piece of filmmaking.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Avatar: The Way of Water and had this to say about the film:

On Home Video

“Home video is recorded media sold or rented for home viewing. The term originates from the VHS and Betamax era, when the predominant medium was videotapes, but has carried over to optical disc formats such as DVD, Blu-ray and streaming media. In a different usage, “home video” refers to amateur video recordings, also known as home movies.

The home-video business distributes films, television series, telefilms and other audiovisual media in the form of videos in various formats to the public. These are either bought or rented, and then watched privately in purchasers’ homes. Most theatrically released films are now…released on digital media, both optical and download-based, replacing the largely obsolete [hard copy] medium…when streaming media became mainstream among its audiences, since most of them have Internet access.”
