Thoughts on This Week’s In-home Releases

The home releases of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Rogue Agent, Training Day, Empire of Light, Becky, Knock at the Cabin, 80 for Brady, and True Grit are the most noteworthy releases (and pre-orders) on home video and streaming services this week.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and had this to say about the film:

It’s hard to compare this sequel to the original Black Panther from 2018 because by doing so, the second movie pales a bit in comparison. It’s not right to compare the pictures because the death of Boseman propelled the series in a different direction than it may have gone had the actor been able to return for the new film. Surprisingly, enough, however, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever eloquently honors Boseman’s memory by the story and the action within the film.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Rogue Agent and had this to say about the film:

Rogue Agent is a thriller like no other. Its characters are complex in nature and the audience will be rooting for Arterton’s Alice to reveal the truth about Robert all the way through for better or worse.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Empire of Light and had this to say about the film:

Despite its limitations, Empire of Light is a decent movie. Colman is passionate and vulnerable in her role although it’s not a performance on the level of some of her previous ones. That being said, Ward makes this movie a better film than it could have been if his role was cast with a lesser actor in it. This is Ward’s coming into stardom role and he is the highlight of the film.

FilmBook Writer Andrew Toy reviewed Becky and had this to say about the film:

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Knock at the Cabin and had this to say about the film:

Knock at the Cabin is not a total disappointment but it certainly boggles the mind how the film got made this way. There was a lot of potential that was squandered for a story line that should have been much more rewarding to its audience and a bit more believable too.

FilmBook Writer Thomas Duffy reviewed 80 for Brady and had this to say about the film:

80 for Brady is a movie that could have truly been special. It’s got a big heart but needed more of a story line to engage the everyday viewer.

FilmBook Editor-in-chief Rollo Tomasi reviewed True Grit and had this to say about the film:

Joel Coen and Ethan Coen’s True Grit is a western more about its characters and their motivations than its action sequences. This is nearly the opposite of Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West where atmosphere, music, cinematography, and action were its most deliberate attributes.
