Brad Pitt’s Expensive Formula 1 Film Receives Title

Brad Pitt‘s latest big-budget movie is from Apple Original Films and has received the title F1 while being positioned to release on June 27, 2025.

Warner Bros. is going to release Brad Pitt’s tentpole racing movie which has finally received its title. Pitt will be portraying driver Sonny Hayes in the film which is going to be called F1. Pitt is no stranger to big budgets but his last costly film, Babylon, was something of a bargain when compared to the $300 million budgeted, F1. While Pitt also has a movie called Wolfs which has completed production, F1 is the project of more interest for the high-profile Oscar-winning actor’s fans.

Kerry Condon and Javier Bardem are Pitt’s co-stars in F1 and nobody ever accused those two stars of bringing people into theaters in droves. However, Joseph Kosinski is the director of F1 which points to promising things for the movie. F1‘s budget blew up because of the pandemic and it now stands as just as expensive a movie as the last The Fast and the Furious movie. Kosinski directed the Oscar-nominated blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick so hopes are high that the filmmaker can deliver the goods again with an aging star in a lead role in a major action picture.

Gran Turismo from summer 2023 was a movie similar in nature to F1. Though that film bombed at the box-office, it scored well with CinemaScore audiences who graded it a solid “A.” F1 will need more than Gran Turismo‘s $44 million domestic gross to score big at the box-office. That film’s $77 million international gross won’t cut it either for F1. Pitt’s “Formula 1” project has chances of becoming a hit, though, with what is likely to be a big marketing push by Warner Bros. and Apple to help launch the picture to success.

Apple recently worked with Columbia Pictures to make the dramatic Scarlett Johansson/Channing Tatum charmer, Fly Me to the Moon, which is opening at theaters late next week. F1 is different from much of Apple’s previous slate of movies. F1 has the type of prestigious cast that could also help the picture become potential Oscar bait.

The $300 million F1 comes on the heels of Apple’s financial disappointment, Killers of the Flower Moon, which cost $210 million to make. F1 will be a summer film unlike the artsy Marty Scorsese’s Flower Moon. Scorsese’s movie didn’t make back its budget internationally or domestically but still did well for Apple overall because of all the accolades it received from critics and audiences.

F1 will have to do at least $400 million worldwide to save some kind of face. Brad Pitt hasn’t seen those types of box-office numbers for much of his live-action career. Of course, Fast X fans may think they’re going back to the beginning of The Fast and the Furious movies with the title, F1. Pitt’s fans know better and will come out to see the actor in what may be, perhaps, another award-nomination worthy role for the talented Pitt.
