Geeta Gandbhir Set to Helm the “Definitive” Whoopi Goldberg Documentary
Whoopi Goldberg is the Subject of a New Documentary
Geeta Gandbhir will be directing a documentary based on the life and career of The View‘s talk-show host, Oscar-winning actress, Whoopi Goldberg.
Geeta Gandbhir is a double Oscar-nominee this year for her two documentaries, one a short and one a feature: The Devil Is Busy and The Perfect Neighbor. She’s now turning her focus to Whoopi Goldberg, the winner of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the hit 1990 movie, Ghost. Focusing on the themes and elements showcased in Goldberg’s autobiography, Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother and Me, the upcoming documentary promises to be an informative glimpse inside the life of Goldberg, the multi-talented co-host of the hit show, The View.
Also featured in the upcoming Goldberg documentary is a look at her 1984 Broadway debut one-woman show at Lincoln Center, The Whoopi Monologues. This new documentary will offer a never-before-seen glimpse inside the talents of a woman who can act in both comedies and dramas to equal levels of success. Goldberg jump started her film career playing opposite Oprah Winfrey in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated masterpiece from 1985, The Color Purple. Goldberg was recently seen as Ms. Hannigan in the play, Annie.
Goldberg starred in many great projects in the 1990’s, including fine parts in movies like How Stella Got Her Groove Back (where she starred opposite Angela Bassett). One of her funniest movie roles came in 1996’s business comedy, The Associate where she disguised herself as an old man to get ahead in the corporate world.
Currently, Whoopi is hard at work on bringing Sister Act 3 to audiences who loved her in the first two installments of the quite successful two-film series. Bringing the new documentary to the screen will be Imagine Documentaries, Message Pictures and One Hoe Productions.
Geeta Gandbhir has the utmost appreciation of Whoopi’s work and her career. Gandbhir is currently predicted to take home at least one of the two Oscars she is nominated for this coming Sunday night. The Perfect Neighbor is more likely to earn her the Academy Award as the feature-length documentary has been an acclaimed gem ever since its premiere at last year’s Sundance Film Festival.
Whoopi Goldberg is an actress, and author of many talents. She has never disappointed even though some critics have given some of her earlier films less than stellar reviews. She hasn’t been in films much these days, but many remember the role that won her the Oscar where she played the now deceased Patrick Swayze’s wisecracking guide to the afterlife and to getting to see his true love (Demi Moore) one more time. Goldberg is an actress whose talents are unparalleled, and the documentary will be a true must-see.
