GODZILLA: RESURGENCE (2016) Movie Trailer & Poster: Toho’s Gojira Returns

Godzilla: Resurgence

Godzilla: Resurgence Movie Trailer & Poster. Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi‘s Godzilla: Resurgence (2016) movie trailer stars a crowd of people hitherto uncredited on IMDb. Godzilla: Resurgence‘s plot synopsis: “Japan is plunged into chaos upon the appearance of a giant monster.”

This trailer is the definition of teaser, as its for a Godzilla film and doesn’t show us the monster. In a sense, this is really all Toho has to do, really. Show a crowd of people clamoring for safety, and glances back at the hopes of not seeing a giant monster following the crowd, and concluding with the infamous roar (that is, by the way, the original unaltered roar from the original Gojira film). The display of mass panic has obvious tinges of tsunami tragedies past, and fortunately for the film, reflections on these moments in the forms of metaphors for Godzilla are always effective (in the original it was fear of the bomb, in the 2013 remake it was pollution, etc).

Now that’s a Godzilla poster I’d put on my wall. Beautiful simplicity, classic monster design. I love it.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
