GROWN UPS 3: New Sequel to Critically Panned Comedy Movies Starts Production in New Jersey

Kevin James, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock, David Spade and the leader of the pack, Adam Sandler, will be reunited for Grown Ups 3 which has started production in New Jersey.

Filmmaker Kyle Newacheck is bringing the crew of lovable, every-day funnymen back to the screen for Grown Ups 3 which will premiere on Netflix in the not-too-distant future. It’s debatable whether or not us movie critics wanted to see another Grown Ups film after the other two travesties which were the first couple of movies in the franchise. They scored approval ratings on Rotten Tomatoes of a mere 10% and 8%, respectively. Considering actors featured in it like star, Adam Sandler, have done near-Oscar nomination worthy roles (see: Jay Kelly) since those other two pictures, it will be interesting to see if the new Grown Ups could actually work this time out.

This new Grown Ups picture has already started production in New Jersey, so there’s no turning back now. Kyle Newacheck directed Sandler in the well-received Happy Gilmore 2, but some people won’t buy that a Grown Ups movie could actually be good until they see living proof. Jackie and Sadie Sandler will be appearing in the new picture as will funny lady, Cheri Oteri, so the cast is, of course, stacked when you take into consideration the male heavyweights like Kevin James who will also be showcased as well. There’s the problem of that pesky script which some people may think will be mostly improvised lines from the comic actors involved in the production like Sandler, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade. But, to quote Schneider, “You can do it!.” You guys could make an OK Grown Ups film, no?

Netflix is hoping for high numbers of streaming viewers for this upcoming sequel movie. After all, the first two films were “bona fide” hits, earning over half a billion worldwide when one combines both movies’ total box-office receipts. Both films received “B” CinemaScore grades and I’ve always thought the viewers gave it a “B” for bad by accident. All joking aside, a “B” is actually a glowing grade for movies like these which were unanimously trashed by critics nationwide.

With Grown Ups 3 going into production, at least moviegoers won’t have to pay to see the funny fellas (and ladies) hanging out together again. Still, it’s nice to know this group of actors and actresses can get together again and shoot the breeze and audiences will go ahead and watch. One of the problems with the earlier films was crass jokes, so let’s hope this new movie is a bit more enjoyable to behold when it finally makes its way to Netflix. No official release date has been announced yet, but it’s pretty clear this movie will be a quickie for the streamer to make, given its lack of any major special effects. It will just be funnymen being funnymen. Well, pretty much, anyway, and these guys have the experience to potentially do these goofy, everyday Joe roles in their sleep.
