GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 (2017): Production Begins On Marvel Sequel

Production started today on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Filming is currently taking place in Atlanta, Georgia, and the film is expected to be released next year.

The first Guardians of the Galaxy film came out in 2014 and proved to be a hit at audiences and critics. This was very surprising given the average viewer’s unfamiliarity with the source material and characters, although the presence of such recognizable names as Chris Pratt (The Lego Movie, Jurassic World) and Zoe Saldana (Star Trek, Avatar) probably improved the movie’s box office prospects. Nevertheless, Marvel and it’s parent company Disney made a tidy profit off the picture, something that they definitely hope to do with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

It has been confirmed that the original cast members will be returning for the sequel with some new faces possibly in the cards, as reported below:

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, plus Michael Rooker and Karen Gillan will also return as Yondu and Nebula. New faces include Pom Klementieff as Mantis, and Kurt Russell in reportedly talks to play Star-Lord’s father. The Marvel flick hits theaters on May 5, 2017.

No footage or images of the movie exist at this early stage of production, but director James Gunn shared a picture of the set featuring the film’s new logo on social media. Writing on Facebook, Gunn quipped, “To quote the great poet David Coverdale, Here I Go Again.” Gunn might be ready for the ride, but viewers will have to wait until next year to experience Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 for themselves.
