HOCUS POCUS 3: A Third Film in the Beloved Disney Witch Movie Franchise is Officially in the Works

Another Hocus Pocus Sequel is in Development

The Sanderson Sisters may make another appearance in the upcoming Hocus Pocus 3 which has been revealed to be in the works over at Disney.

In 1993, a Disney witch movie named Hocus Pocus got swallowed up at the box-office by a whale of a tale called Free Willy. These days, not too many people are anxious for another Willy movie but after the smashing success of Hocus Pocus 2 (which premiered last fall on Disney Plus), audiences are truly itching for a third Hocus Pocus film. For fans of the two prior Disney witch films, the good news is that they will most likely get a part three in the film series as the project has been revealed to be in development at Disney.

Sean Bailey, who is the president of Disney’s film division, confirmed that there will be another Hocus Pocus picture. The big question mark hanging over the new entry in the series is whether Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will be returning to reprise their enormously popular roles in film number three. All three stars hinted in previous interviews that a third movie in the franchise could possibly tickle their fancy.

Midler’s character, Winifred, is certainly the fan favorite from the previous two pictures. With buck teeth, she stands out as the toughest and the most humorous of the Sanderson Sisters. A distant second is “Sex and the City” alumni, Sarah Jessica Parker, and just behind her is the wickedly funny Najimy.

Characters from the first Hocus Pocus may possibly resurface in film three. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet but Vinessa Shaw, Omri Katz and Thora Birch have every right to pop up in the third picture in the series. Although a new set of heroic characters were introduced in film two, Hocus Pocus 2 became a hit for Disney Plus where it streamed quite a bit for viewers and positioned the picture as one of the most viewed films last year on the streamer.

While Hocus Pocus 3 goes through the process of coming into fruition, you may want to take a peek back at the previous two films. 1993 was the year the first movie opened in theaters and earned a “middling” $44 million at the box-office despite the great presence of the Divine Miss M, Bette Midler.

Hocus Pocus became well-liked on home video and cable. The sequel’s successful streaming run proves that this movie series has a lot of life left to be breathed into it. While it’s unlikely that the third picture will be a theatrical event, Disney Plus seems to be thriving as a home service thanks in part to the online success of the rather enjoyable Hocus Pocus 2.
