ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY: Cheech Marin Replaces George Lopez on Upcoming Remake

Cheech Marin Takes Over For George Lopez in Disney Plus Film

Cheech Marin has taken over for George Lopez in a principal role in the upcoming Disney Plus film, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Cheech Marin has proven himself as so much more than half of the legendary comedy duo Cheech and Chong. That comedy pair thrived in the 1980’s with some goofy, fun pictures that inspired audiences to line up at theaters to see them. Even early in his career, Marin had the distinction of having a brief but hilarious role in Martin Scorsese’s classic, After Hours. Now, Marin is set to star in a remake of the 2014 Disney Film, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. That film was first a book and the upcoming remake will offer a different take on the material than the 2014 movie did.

George Lopez (who co-starred in Disney’s hilarious movie, Swing Vote, back in 2008) was originally slated for one of the remake’s principal roles but has now been replaced by Marin. Lopez bowed out of the project due to a scheduling problem. This role Marin is taking over is that of Gil who is going to be funny (what else?) and a character that rides a motorcycle. Eva Longoria is the most prominent star of the movie’s cast besides Marin. The movie will play on Disney Plus.

Marin has done some terrific work over the years. One of his most memorable supporting roles was in 1996’s golf movie, Tin Cup, which starred Kevin Costner. Marin has done many voices in animated movies and that is primarily his forte. He has a very distinct voice which makes him perfect for family-themed movies. He recently co-starred in the sports-themed audience favorite, Champions, which scored an “A” CinemaScore grade despite so-so box-office results. Marin also played with Jennifer Lopez in Shotgun Wedding earlier this year.

2014’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day made a decent showing at the box-office but was not the definitive take on the book on which it was based. Still, that 2014 movie scored a respectable “A-” CinemaScore grade and almost $67 domestically. It grossed over $100 million total when adding in the international box-office figures. That film starred Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner.

The upcoming movie remake that Marin will be featured in will be a road trip picture. Thom Nemer will be playing the young Alexander this time out. The production is starting up in New Mexico and this film promises a fun time for Disney Plus subscribers, some of whom may have missed the 2014 movie which is coming up on its 10th anniversary next year. Marin is a classic comic performer who has what it takes to light up the screen and will hopefully make George Lopez proud when filling his shoes.
