HOCUS POCUS 3: Bette Midler Reveals a Script Has Been Written for Third Installment of Popular Witch Movie Series

Hocus Pocus 3 Script in the Bag

Disney may have another big hit on the horizon with Hocus Pocus 3, a sequel that star Bette Midler has revealed has a script attached to it.

Bette Midler has made it known that another sequel in the Hocus Pocus franchise is (hopefully) coming into fruition with the news of the completion of the script for the third picture in the series. There’s still that pesky matter of the budget for the picture and the other logistics of how the film will be put together which remain up in the air at the present time. Still, the update Midler has provided is hopeful that the sequel has the potential to move forward successfully.

Midler has stated that a lot of the new screenplay is “brilliant” which keeps inquiring minds wondering whether or not Midler’s co-stars, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker, will be jumping on their broomsticks again. The Sanderson sisters are like a package deal so it’s likely all three characters will be joining forces again to wreak havoc again on (perhaps) another small town.

Now, Hocus Pocus 2 was a huge hit on Disney-plus. The first film, which was released theatrically, didn’t fare great at the box-office in the year of its release (1993). These two pieces of information beg the question as to whether or not Disney would want to consider Hocus Pocus 3 for the big screen. Freakier Friday was a recent Disney sequel that did solid business theatrically and the Sanderson sisters’ new escapades could be even bigger at the movie theaters than ever. Freakier Friday earned $153 million internationally with $94 million of that coming from its domestic release.

One must understand that the second movie was released shortly after the pandemic which helped lead to the decision to send it straight to streaming. Now, with a more movie-going friendly environment, it would be nice to see the Sanderson sisters back on the big screen where they belong. While we don’t know what elements have been conjured up for the script for Hocus Pocus 3, you can bet that audiences will be on-board whatever those ingredients may be.

With another Halloween upon us, the likelihood of the Hocus Pocus movies being watched this season is very high. These two pictures have become a Halloween-season staple for fans of witches and the movie’s stars. These witches would give the ones in Practical Magic a run for their money although those are good witches and these are bad ones. If the second Practical Magic movie can land a theatrical release (and one is, indeed, planned) so can Hocus Pocus 3. Wicked: For Good is opening next month in the meantime if you need a fix of the “Wicked Witch” while waiting for the Sanderson sisters to burst back onto the screen.
