THE PRINCESS DIARIES 3: Anne Hathaway Sheds Lights on Future of Third Installment in Popular Disney Franchise

The Princess Diaries 3 Gets New Update from Star
Anne Hathaway has stated that there has been a change of status in an update regarding the upcoming sequel from Disney, The Princess Diaries 3.
Actress Anne Hathaway has admitted that the next sequel in The Princess Diaries franchise has run into a hiccup and has had to begin again in the development stage. Although the plug was pulled on the original idea for the sequel, there has been some headway made in terms of reaching a new idea that could be employed for a storyline for the third installment of the much anticipated The Princess Diaries.
In previous reports, Adele Lim was said to be attached to direct the new The Princess Diaries movie. At one point, it looked like the star of the first movie, Julie Andrews, could actually appear in part 3. Over the years, the hope of that happening has dwindled a bit due to Andrews’ age (she’s 90) although Andrews is still listed on the IMDb cast page for The Princess Diaries 3, suggesting the screen veteran may have a part in the sequel, however small it may be.
Hathaway is currently receiving raves for her work in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey which she is now promoting while pregnant with her third child. Earlier this year, Hathaway hit audiences hard with the 1-2 punch of two intriguing films: the well-received hit, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and the critically acclaimed, Mother Mary. Some expect Hathaway to potentially receive another Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her work in The Odyssey.
The Princess Diaries franchise helped put Hathaway on the Hollywood map and is a family-friendly franchise. Kelly Clarkson and Lindsay Lohan were among the artists on the soundtrack of The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. For the third film to work, it will have to have a great soundtrack as well since fans of the 2004 second film have been waiting over 20 years for a follow-up movie. It would be nice if Andrews could do a walk-on at the very least and if Hathaway could somehow maintain that tremendous charm from her younger years. That seems like it will be something easy for the very versatile Hathaway.
The Princess Diaries was a financially lucrative franchise, judging from the box-office tallies of the first two movies, however, Hathaway has struggled at the box-office with some risky independent movies she starred in recently like She Came to Me and Mother Mary. Luckily, this summer, she has bounced back with great box-office returns for both The Devil Wears Prada 2 and the current critical/audience hit, The Odyssey. The Princess Diaries 3 still looks like an iffy proposition for a potential theatrical release anytime soon, but keep an eye out for more news on this project as it develops.
