Thoughts on This Week’s In-home Releases

Halloween is the biggest release of the week but this is a weak week for new in-home releases. Style-wise, horror film Halloween is great, story-wise, the narrative is filled with inexplicable holes.

From my review of Halloween:

Also confounding in Halloween is the complete lack of proper response from the Haddonfield, Illinois police force when they find out that Michael Myers has escaped. Why in the hell don’t the police warn people via: a.) local TV news (breaking in on all TV broadcasts), b.) text message alerts, c.) email alerts, and d.) driving around in squad cars and telling everyone to get off the streets. That a serial killer that kills on Halloween has just escaped from a mental institution and is most-likely heading to town?

My full review for the film can be found here.

From all the trailers released for Old Man and the Gun, it looks like a good film. It is also the swan song for Robert Redford and his acting career – Redford retired after this film.

FilmBook writer Deyan Angelov was able to screen at the 2018 London Film Festival and has this to say about the film:

The Old Man and the Gun is a lot of fun because of its charming performances, the intriguing situations caused by the protagonist’s bold nature and the consistently entertaining humor. It is an easy-going story, in which the few misfortunes are overcome with a smile. That is pretty much what the closing text let us know.
