JACK FROST: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Rumored to Be Sought After for Remake of 1998 Family Film

Dwayne Johnson Said to Be Eyed for Jack Frost Remake

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson could be playing the Michael Keaton role from the 1998 family film, Jack Frost, in an upcoming remake of the movie.

When Michael Keaton starred as a snowman in the child-friendly 1998 dramatic picture, Jack Frost, the results were tepid with critics and disappointing at the box-office with just about $34 million collected in domestic ticket sales at the time. What is that saying about not remaking great films but, instead, remaking bad movies that didn’t quite live up to their potential? I’m not sure how it goes, but things could be significantly improved upon if a remake of the Keaton movie made its way into production. Cast Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in it and the box-office grosses could even lead to an opening weekend that should surpass the original’s total box-office take all in one fell swoop.

So, the rumors of a new Jack Frost are just rumors at this point. Johnson has a few projects on IMDB that are ahead of a potential Jack Frost remake. In the meantime, wrestler Johnson has taken to the ring to knock down his performance in 2017’s belly flop, Baywatch. At the recent WWE Raw Day 1, Johnson was no-holds barred about the poor quality of what is perhaps his most disappointing picture to date. Baywatch made just $58 million domestically despite an impressive $119 million international take. It still scored a “B+” CinemaScore which suggests audiences liked it at the time. However, it doesn’t hold up as a movie today.

Jack Frost was a movie in which its heart was definitely in the right place.  Lisa Loeb had a song featured at the film’s end credits titled, “How,” which definitely helped audiences warm up to the bittersweet ending of the 1998 Michael Keaton movie. With the fairly recent passing of its co-star, Kelly Preston, the movie would be a nice one to see remade. How about bringing Lisa Loeb back for the potentially upcoming film’s soundtrack?

The Rock has a family friendly, built-in audience of young viewers that turned out in droves for Jumanji movies and Jungle Cruise, to name just a couple of Johnson’s recent films. He would be a perfect casting choice for the new Jack Frost remake. Can you imagine Johnson’s face on that of a dedicated father snowman? If you can, you’re starting to see the vision of what could be a potentially interesting remake for the mega-star to appear in.

Johnson is no stranger to family films and had a recent animated hit in 2022 called DC League of Super-Pets which made $93 million domestically and over $200 million total box-office dollars worldwide. That’s the type of audience that a Jack Frost remake could potentially tap into if it’s any good. Keep your eyes peeled for further information which will be reported as this project develops more.
