Zazie Beetz Could Come Back For the Second Joker Film

Acclaimed actress, Zazie Beetz, could return for the sequel to 2019’s Joker which is titled Joker: Folie à Deux

Zazie Beetz starred in a very dark role opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the Oscar-nominated film, Joker, back in 2019. Now, she’s in negotiations to possibly come back for the sequel to that hit movie which is due in 2024. Beetz has recently been beating the odds and picking consecutive winners when it comes to the projects she selects. Last year, she starred in one of the top movies of 2021, Nine Days. Earlier this year, she did voice-over work for the box-office hit, The Bad Guys. Currently, she is starring opposite Brad Pitt in the number one box-office attraction in the country, Bullet Train.

In the original movie, Joker, Beetz played a woman who seemed to be getting along rather well with outcast Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) but in a twist that gave Fight Club a run for its money, the connection between the two characters was all in Fleck’s imagination. Beetz’s character name in Joker was Sophie. While we don’t know if this role will actually happen again for Beetz, there is a good possibility that it could at this particular point in time.

In Beetz’s role in Nine Days, she played the very backbone of the movie. She portrayed a soul who is given the possibility to be born and played opposite the great actor Winston Duke. A scene between Duke and Beetz that concludes the film has become one of the most emotional sequences that has come out of a recent independent movie. Nine Days played at the Sundance Film Festival before the pandemic hit and was given a proper theatrical release in 2021.

The much more popular recent animated movie, The Bad Guys, cast Beetz in a fun voice-over role opposite the always superb Sam Rockwell. Beetz and Rockwell shared some witty banter together in that film. In Bullet Train, Beetz faces off with action hero Brad Pitt in a different type of role for her with fantastic results all around. Bullet Train has won acclaim from audiences who awarded the film a very respectable “B+” CinemaScore grade.

Beetz is also noteworthy for her turn in the hit Netflix Western movie, The Harder They Fall. She is certainly one of the finest actresses working today which would make her a natural choice to come back to the role she originated in Joker back in 2019. With Lady Gaga recently cast in the new sequel musical movie, it seems like this is going to be one follow up film for the record books which will certainly top the box-office charts when it is released in October of 2024. Hopefully Beetz will be a part of it!
