Lady Vengeance Remake. William Monahan joining the production for the Charlize Theron remake of Park Chan-wook‘s 2005 Lady Vengeance (Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) has revitalized the long gestating motion picture. Charlize Theron has been trying to get this film made since 2008. With the remake of Oldboy currently in production, it is not surprising that another revenge remake has also been green-lite. William Monahan is writing the script for the film and Charlize Theron will produce and star. Annapurna Pictures is financially backing the film.

Lady Vengeance is the third film in director Park Chan-wook revenge trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Lady Vengeance) and is the second film of the trilogy to be remade. The original film starred “Lee Young Ae as Lee Geum-ja, a woman released from prison after serving the sentence for a murder she did not commit. The film tells her story of revenge against the real murderer.”
