Einstein Panel from NYC Comic Con 2026
New York Comic Con 2026 Write Up on Paramount Plus and CBS‘s upcoming show, Einstein.
Albert Einstein is smiling from up above at the ideas showcased in CBS‘s forthcoming comedy/thriller series, Einstein. Damian Holbrook energetically moderated today’s panel, which followed a screening of a premiere episode of the upcoming show. Audiences were having a great time, watching the star of Einstein, Matthew Gray Gubler, going through his unique comic paces on the show with hysterical results that were certainly crowd-pleasing, to say the least.
When Matthew Gray Gubler walks into the room, everything is taken up, just a bit. Scratch that. He actually takes the room to the next level. Joining him on-stage, after the screening of the show, was the program’s sophisticated and beautiful co-star, Melissa Fumero. Holbrook fondly remembered that Fumero came from a soap opera (“One Life to Live”) and Fumero’s mom and kids were among those at the convention rooting in her corner.
Gubler, best known as the smart criminal profiler, Spencer, on “Criminal Minds,” is cast in a similar role, but with a different type of edge, in Einstein. It’s almost impossible to think of a better actor for the role on this new series than Gubler.
At the end of the screening of the episode shown, Tony Shalhoub of “Monk” fame was revealed to be playing Gubler’s character’s dad on the new show. In a great and fun gesture, the audience was asked to sing Shalhoub “Happy birthday,” on account of the fact that the acclaimed actor’s birthday had just passed two days prior to today’s event.

Matthew Gray Gubler’s character is called Lewis “Lew” Einstein, a professor who takes a cannon (or something like that) to shoot through to another professor’s window on a college campus to settle a score at the start of the show. When he’s arrested, Lew is given the opportunity to work (and play) for the authorities after his reluctant partner, Teresa “Teri” London (Fumero), discovers the professor’s hidden talents and unique gifts, which would certainly come in handy when it comes down to solving some heinous crimes, notably the one at the center of the first episode (a review on FilmBook will run soon of this episode).
Lew’s dad, played by Shalhoub, will be a criminal named Jack, who is seemingly imprisoned at the beginning of the series. Jack is quite big on Albert Einstein merchandise and uses it in a way to make profits. It is said that Einstein’s intelligence skipped the “Jack” generation in his family. Both stars’ characters are related to Albert Einstein in a humorous way that I’ll leave you to discover for yourself.
Some things you should know about the new Einstein show include that it is a very humorous program that interweaves great comedy moments from its gifted star, Gubler, although it also includes some heavy thriller scenes as well. It interweaves the genres quite well, but more will be said about that in the review.
It was made known on today’s panel that “Monk” fans will find more than just Tony Shalhoub coming over from the widely praised hit, “Monk.” What stars or what elements, exactly, will be coming over remains to be seen, though.
According to today’s event, scenes of Gubler’s character’s mom will also most likely make it into the show at some point, even though that mother character is deceased. There will be some good mysteries to solve in most of these Einstein shows, and this first episode featured a lot of excitement, including a near-drowning that our heroes must escape from when they find themselves in their water-logged car, thanks to the efforts of a sneaky criminal.
What makes Einstein so appealing to people who will take an interest in it is most likely going to be the great chemistry of Fumero and Gubler, who are like two finely tuned violins in sync with one another, making beautiful entertainment together in a fun and exciting way. Shalhoub is the icing on the cake. Their presence at Comic-Con was solid gold and audiences responded with glee.
