Now In-theater June 15, 2018
The motion pictures now in-theater are from various Hollywood and independent movie studios. Some of the films are in wide release (600 screens or more in the United States and Canada) and some are in limited release (a motion picture that is playing in a select few theaters across the country [typically in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco]).
This Week’s In-Theater Releases
Straight into a Storm
Gabriel and the Mountain
Incredibles 2 will be the Number One film at the box office over the weekend. The film made over $18 Million at its Thursday night screenings in the United States. That take indicates how strong Incredibles 2‘s fan-base is, how its grown since the first film’s release, and how popular superhero films have become in the interim. The reviews for Incredibles 2 that I have read say that the film equals if not exceeds the first film. I don’t doubt it. Computer animation has come a long way since the original The Incredibles was released in 2004.
Last week’s Number One film, Ocean’s 8, will be Second this weekend. Ocean’s 8 has a great base audience but it doesn’t have the extreme wide audience, i.e. children, teens, parents, animation lovers, superhero films lovers, that Incredibles 2 will gleefully drag into multiplexes this weekend.
Tag will be Third at the box office this weekend. Like Ocean’s 8, Tag has an all star cast and quite an original premise. That premise alone, a game of tag that has gone on for thirty years, will be enough to intrigue comedy lovers this weekend.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be Fourth at the box office this weekend but could easily be Fifth.
Deadpool 2 will be Fifth at the box office this weekend.
This may be the last weekend in which Deadpool 2 is in the Top Five if Superfly, opening next weekend, does not open strongly.
