Rebel Moon Will Be Zack Snyder’s Next Project

Zack Snyder has received a “go ahead” green light for his new film Rebel Moon which he will be making for Netflix.

Fresh off back-to-back hits for Netflix and HBO Max, Zack Snyder is getting a “go” on his latest science fiction fantasy project, Rebel Moon. Snyder recently unveiled Army of the Dead through Netflix and Zack Snyder’s Justice League through HBO Max. Both were well received by the movie streaming public with Army of the Dead being viewed by 72 million people in just four weeks.

Rebel Moon is a project which Snyder has been working on for many years. It has been in development for about a decade. It’s Snyder’s own personal version of Star Wars, if you will. The upcoming film’s premise revolves around a colony “on the edge of the galaxy” disrupted by the armies of an evil regent named Balisarius. A mysterious female hero is enlisted to recruit heroes from nearby planets to fight back. This film is also inspired by the legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa who is, perhaps, best known for 1985’s masterpiece Ran. Snyder is betting this upcoming picture of his will help launch a franchise.

Scott Stuber of Netflix will again be working with Snyder. The pair collaborated on Dawn of the Dead back in 2004 when Stuber was working for Universal. Stuber was also behind Snyder getting to make his recent zombie flick Army of the Dead for Netflix.

Snyder will be producing the upcoming picture with his wife Deborah Snyder through their company, Stone Quarry. Zack has been hard at work with the world-building of his latest project hoping to ensure it will be one of his best projects yet. It will begin production in 2022.

Snyder has been a force to contend with for many years and even when he does a film that doesn’t live up to expectations such as 2011’s Sucker Punch, his work remains very interesting. When the original 2017 DC superhero film, Justice League, failed to do extraordinary business at the box-office, Snyder made good with his fans by improving the film significantly. Even though the updated version ran over four hours (with ending credits included), it pleased those who weren’t happy with the original.

Snyder’s upcoming Netflix project Rebel Moon will reunite him with talent he has worked with in the past. From the Grand Electric production company folks to writing partners, Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, Snyder will be working his magic alongside people he has had faith in before.
