RUSH HOUR 4: Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker Refuse Low Pay for Upcoming Sequel
Rush Hour 4 Delayed Due to Low Offers for Stars
Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker will not be accepting the initial $8 million each offer for them to appear in the upcoming Rush Hour 4.
The pay that was offered to Rush Hour 4 stars, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, was not sufficient enough for the stars to accept it. The paltry $8 million apiece that was offered to them was thus rejected by the two stars of the high grossing action/comedy series.
Brett Ratner is slated to direct Rush Hour 4, but without the two main stars signing on, it looks likely that the potential release date of the forthcoming buddy film will be delayed. You’d think with Paramount backing the fourth entry in the hugely successful film series, the pay for the stars, Chan and Tucker. would be bigger than, not less than the $20 million or so they made for the last outing in the popular franchise.
It has been nearly 20 years since the third Rush Hour picture, though. A paltry $8 million apiece definitely seems like an unjustified pay cut for both of our cinematic action heroes. Tucker and Chan could certainly use the extra money, too. Chan may have done the fairly recent The Karate Kid series reboot, but the last great movie Tucker did, Silver Linings Playbook, came out well over a decade ago.
Rush Hour 4 is poised to become a box-office juggernaut if the stars could only close a deal to appear in the film. Paramount’s major studio name on the film may even help the new film score bigger box-office returns than its profitable predecessors. Chan and Tucker will probably try to renegotiate their contracts for this widely anticipated upcoming sequel.
Chan’s role in the Rush Hour films feels like the type of performance that the martial arts star does best. To see him run around in another action picture in this series, though, he will likely need to see a bigger payday than the measly $8 million that he has been offered.
Donald Trump supported the making of the new film in the Rush Hour series, but inquiring minds will want to know when it will actually be made soon, given the recent salary disputes the stars had in regard to their low offers for another go around in the roles that made them both famous in the States.
Buddy comedies have been lacking pizazz in Hollywood lately, but Rush Hour 4 is something we truly want and need to see, especially audiences who have followed this series since 1998. Who can forget the first movie where the stars go around singing, “War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing. Say it again.” These two stars definitely deserve a good pay day for Rush Hour 4, and we’ll report when a settlement has been announced to get the stars more money than the measly $8 million that they’ve been offered so far.
