SCARY MOVIE 6: Sixth Installment of Spoof Movie Goes Back to the Series’ Roots with the Return of the Wayans Brothers

Sixth Scary Movie to Reunite the Wayans Brothers
The Wayans Brothers will be back with the latest installment of the once hugely successful horror movie spoof series, the Scary Movie franchise.
Paramount and Miramax may have been inspired by the success of the latest Scream pictures. Whatever has led to the decision, the choice has been made to let the Wayans Brothers (Marlon Wayans, Keenan Ivory Wayans and Shawn Wayans) let loose behind the scenes of the new Scary Movie spoof picture which is number six in the series. Surely, there’s been a lot of horror movies to make fun of over the past decade as the last Scary Movie came out all the way back in 2013.
The Wayans Brothers are desperately needed to rejuvenate the once hugely popular comical film series. The fifth installment bombed out with a pitiful $32 million domestic box-office gross and is currently holding a mere 4% approval rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website. Maybe the franchise petered out because the Wayans Brothers left it. In any event, they’re back to set things right and put the horror spin-off comedy series back on track.
When the first Scary Movie came out in 2000, it couldn’t have been released at a better time for horror movies. It came right on the heels of two hugely successful scary movies: The Sixth Sense and The Blair Witch Project. That was perfect timing for a hit spoof movie and the first picture in the Scary Movie series went on to gross $157 domestically which was even more than The Blair Witch Project which only made $140 million in the US and Canada.
Horror movies such as the Saw pictures and Paranormal Activity films were bait for future Scary Movie pictures but the comedy scripts weren’t as funny as they could have been in the absence of the Wayans Brothers. Although Anna Faris was tied to the third and fourth films in the series, her presence wasn’t enough to keep the series going, especially when she departed the proceedings when part 5 came out.
It is hopeful with so many great horror movies to spoof that the new Scary Movie 6 will be a hit. There’s been a fair share of exorcism movies and so much more for the Wayans Brothers to take on in the latest installment of the once quite humorous franchise. The last Scary Movie project that the Wayans Brothers worked on was Scary Movie 2 back in 2001. A theatrical release will certainly be fitting for Scary Movie 6 to see if the Wayans family can revitalize a once prosperous financial situation where a comic movie series had audiences lining up and rolling in the aisles.
