Paramount Pictures has released the third movie trailer for Justin Lin directed Star Trek Beyond (2016). The promo machine is in full swing for Paramount Pictures’ new Star Trek film. They have enlisted singer Rihanna for the soundtrack and for the audio backdrop for the old and new footage in this film trailer. In the trailer, Rihanna sings the single “Sledgehammer.” It reminded me of Lynn Minmay singing over the major battle in Robotech (except Rihanna has a trained voice and can actually sing). Captain Kirk has a new voice-over talking about the destruction of the Enterprise as the Enterprise is destroyed and the crew abandons ship (reference the Star Trek: Voyager episode Year of Hell).

In the trailer, the viewer also sees the crew of the Enterprise on a world where they are not exactly welcome by all of the inhabitants.

The Enterprise has been destroyed previously in other Star Trek films so my guess is that a new Enterprise will be commissioned by the end of this film or at the beginning of the next film.

Star Trek Beyond‘s plot synopsis: “In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.”
