Patty Jenkins’ Heavy Schedule Delays Potential Blockbuster

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron has been delayed due to director Patty Jenkins‘ busy slate of upcoming projects.

My fellow Star Wars fans take note. It seems that the filming of the eagerly awaited Star Wars: Rogue Squadron has been pushed back for the time being due to its high profile director Patty Jenkins’ full schedule. The news came as no surprise to many being that the casting of the film wasn’t even accomplished yet. However, the Disney/Lucasfilm project is not going to evaporate into thin air. Not at this point, anyway and it will, hopefully, still make its projected release date of December 22, 2023. Jenkins had been working on this upcoming picture alongside writer Matthew Robinson for over a year, according to sources.

What’s on the acclaimed Monster director Jenkins’ schedule? There’s still that pesky matter of Wonder Woman 3 despite some less-than-stellar critical notices of its predecessor Wonder Woman 1984. And, of course, who can forget the much hyped version of Cleopatra over at Paramount that Jenkins has up her sleeve?

Jenkins came on to the Hollywood scene with 2003’s acclaimed movie Monster which won Charlize Theron the Academy Award for Best Actress. It may have taken a while but when she made the smash 2017 hit, Wonder Woman, her whole career began to skyrocket again and people took note of Jenkins’ fantastic directorial talents.

Patty Jenkins is a director who, much like Christopher Nolan, believes in the true cinematic magic of going to an actual movie theater to see a film. She was paid a fair amount of money by Warner Bros. around the time when Wonder Woman 1984 premiered on HBO Max at the same as it opened in movie theaters. But, nevertheless, she would most likely prefer her films to premiere exclusively in theaters.

There are two other Star Wars movies of note making their way through Hollywood in the interim. One is Taika Waititi’s and the other is Kevin Feige’s.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron would have went into production next year and started preproduction around this time if things had gone as planned. Jenkins is said to be unable to meet that timeline, however. This film is thus not on the production schedule, as previously stated.

A teaser trailer for the delayed Star Wars picture was unveiled in December, 2020. It may have stirred up fans’ appetites for a potentially terrific project given Jenkins’ tremendous talent but, for now, people will have to settle for whatever Star Wars projects are showing on Disney Plus. “The Book of Boba Fett” will hold fans over for a bit this holiday season while the makers of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron figure out a more realistic timeframe for its shooting schedule.
