New Stars Wars Film Details Revealed by Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy have made it clear that their new Star Wars project, Star Wars: Starfighter, will not be a sequel or a prequel.

Star Wars: Starfighter is going to be a “new adventure” and will not precede or directly follow any previous films in the Star Wars franchise. Due out in theaters on May 28, 2027, this new picture is going to be a standalone picture in the immensely popular cinematic Star Wars world. During the Star Wars Celebration in Japan, this new project’s details were officially announced by star Ryan Gosling and the film’s director, Shawn Levy.

In other news regarding this upcoming project, recent Best Actress Oscar winner, Mikey Madison, passed on a key role in the high-profile science fiction movie. Madison just took home the gold for the Best Picture winner, Anora, and didn’t see the project as something she wanted to be a part of right now, for whatever reason, according to reports.

It has been stated that Star Wars: Starfighter is going to be “set five years after” The Rise of Skywalker movie from several years back. That places it in a universe where anything can happen and the filmmakers may not tie too many loose threads together except for some parallels to previous Star Wars movies. Jonathan Tropper is penning the film.

Gosling thinks the new picture has “heart and adventure” and that Shawn Levy is the “perfect” director to helm the project. Considering the humor that Levy brought to Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, the question arises as to whether or not the new Star Wars will have any comedy in it. That’s a rarity for a Star Wars picture so inquiring minds are interested to see what Levy will bring to the table regarding this franchise.

Levy previously directed Free Guy, the successful Ryan Reynolds film from 2021. In that picture, there was at least one homage to the Star Wars franchise which may have foreshadowed that Levy would eventually direct a movie in the series. This forthcoming film will start shooting this fall and will feature almost all new characters.

While Mikey Madison may have passed on a box-office bonanza by refusing to appear in this upcoming movie, she seems that she may be more interested in doing different projects at this time that probably do not involve enormous budgets. That may be speculative, however, no real reason was revealed why she passed on the project.

All eyes are on this new Star Wars movie with Levy in the director’s chair. It should take the series to new heights and be an enjoyable movie as Levy’s films typically tend to entertain. Gosling is most likely going to have a new blockbuster to put on his resume too after the huge success of 2023’s Barbie which solidified him on the map as one of the most versatile actors working today.
