The Social Network Sequel Sets Title and Release Date

The Social Network sequel is going to be called The Social Reckoning and has set an October 9, 2026 release date.

Yes, the sequel to 2010’s Oscar bait film, The Social Network, has finally landed a release date and a title. The film will have a well positioned release date of October 9, 2026 where it will play as a movie with serious Academy Award potential. Aaron Sorkin will be helming the picture which is going to be called The Social Reckoning. It features an all-new cast that includes two Oscar-nominated performers for movies from last year and the soon to be critically respected (for playing Bruce Springsteen), Jeremy Allen White. Jeremy Strong and Best Actress Oscar-winner for Anora, Mikey Madison are the former nominees in the upcoming follow-up to the 2010 movie.

Jeremy Strong will assume the role of Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook. Madison will serve as Frances Haugen, a whistle blower, and White will play reporter Jeff Horwitz who broke stories known as “The Facebook Files.” Strong is fresh off the supporting role of Roy Cohn that earned him an Oscar nod for The Apprentice, the Donald Trump drama. Jeremy Allen White is playing Bruce Springsteen in the new biopic, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, which is currently slated to be shown at this year’s New York Film Festival.

With The Social Reckoning, Aaron Sorkin most likely hopes to duplicate the success of the David Fincher 2010 gem, The Social Network. There is a big question mark, however, which is whether or not this follow-up project has the potential to duplicate the nearly $225 million gross of the original 2010 picture. A sequel in many respects, the new picture could also serve as a standalone film for people who haven’t even seen the original movie.

Mikey Madison, in particular, is expected to have a very central role in the upcoming follow-up film, The Social Reckoning. She’s coming off a sensational success with her role in Anora for which she won the Best Actress Oscar in a year which included amazing nominees such as Demi Moore (who was expected to win for her work in The Substance) and the great Cynthia Erivo (Wicked: Part 1).

Strong may have found himself a front-runner in the Best Supporting Actor category for his turn in The Apprentice, but there were two really strong turns last year that included Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), who ultimately won the Oscar, and the wonderful Guy Pearce (of The Brutalist). As Zuckerberg, Strong could find himself back in the Oscar race if his work is as good as we’ve come to expect from the acclaimed performer.

Meanwhile, Sorkin could be a potential candidate for an Oscar nod, himself, for Best Director for 2026 for The Social Reckoning because he typically has received recognition for his writing in the past. It all depends on whether or not the excellent team assembled can shine through with this highly anticipated follow-up picture.
