New Horror Film Starring Ethan Hawke Is a True Scarefest

At CinemaCon, the trailer for Ethan Hawke’s latest horror film The Black Phone was revealed and many are predicting it to be a smash hit horror film.

When Ethan Hawke and director Scott Derrickson made Sinister in 2012, audiences were terrified and embraced the scary film with open arms. It has since become a cult classic. Hawke and Derrickson’s latest collaboration, The Black Phone, looks like its going to be even more terrifying than that previous movie based on a trailer recently viewed at CinemaCon. As a result, horror movie audiences couldn’t be more excited at the news!

Hawke is featured in the upcoming picture as a monster of an evil villain, a character which greatly overrides the nice guy image he has portrayed in many of his previous films.  The story of the film, which is set to be released in January 2022, revolves around a kidnapped boy stuck in a basement covered in dead kids’ blood. He finds an old telephone there which rings late at night apparently with “calls from the dead!”

Hawke is portraying a kidnapper who lures kids by claiming to be a magician. Hawke taped a message for potential exhibitors of the film claiming the upcoming Blumhouse movie will take the throne from Sinister as the scariest movie he’s ever made. Hawke has become a horror film star in his own right with starring roles in the first installments of two of the scariest franchises in recent horror movie history. They are the Sinister and The Purge films. The original Sinister grossed $48 million at the domestic box-office and has won a slew of fans since its initial release while the original The Purge earned over $64 million in 2013.

Mason Thames portrays the kidnapped young boy in the picture. This character is mentally abused by Hawke’s deranged character as the kidnapper wears creepy disguises and tells the kid of other children who have been in his place previously. The eerie phone calls the boy receives offer potential ways for him to escape while another character, a young local girl, tries to help the authorities find the boy’s location after having scary visions of his predicament.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse are again joining forces with Hawke on another terrifying film with The Black Phone. Their previous collaboration, the original The Purge, resulted in a franchise which made hundreds of millions of dollars and many expect this new picture to be highly profitable when it is released on January 28, 2022.
