THE BREADWINNER: Angelina Jolie & SONG OF THE SEA creators team for New Film

Angelina Jolie Pitt is producing The Breadwinner. Angelina Jolie Pitt is one of those big-name celebrities who is known for trying to make the world a better place. Whether it’s the numerous donations she did next to her husband with the Jolie-Pitt Foundation or adopting children, she uses her time to help the unfortunate others when she is not starring in or directing a movie. Now she is going to combine her multiple careers in her newest project.

Angelina Jolie Pitt and her studio, Jolie Pas Productions will be teaming up with Cartoon Saloon to be the executive producer of their next animated feature, The Breadwinner, based on the acclaimed young adult novel of the same name by Deborah Ellis. The story is about a little Afghan girl who has to disguise herself as a boy to become the breadwinner of the family, since her father was unfairly imprisoned, during the Taliban regime.

Jolie Pitt shared her interest in the project by saying, “Millions of young girls like Parvana [the main character of the novel] are growing up today under oppression or conflict, and helping their families to survive in those conditions. This story is a reminder of the immense value of their contribution. I am delighted to be working with a talented team of artists who I know will do justice to the richness, creativity and strength of Afghan culture and to little girls like Parvana.” She will be joining along side the other producers of the film, including Tomm Moore, Paul Young, Anthony Leo, Andrew Rosen, and Stephan Roelants.

I believe Jolie Pitt made a very good choice by teaming with Cartoon Saloon on this feature film. The studio may be just starting to make feature films, but their reputation is on the rise. The two films they’ve done, 2009’s The Secret of Kells and 2014’s Song of the Sea are not only both highly critically acclaimed, but were also both Oscar nominated for Best Animated Feature.

The Breadwinner will be directed by one of the co-directors of The Secret of Kells, Nora Twomey, and the movie will be aiming for an early 2017 release.
