Violent Night 2 Could Soon Be in the Works

David Harbour has offered the possibility of there being a Violent Night 2 in which the actor would reprise his role as Santa Claus.

Last holiday season, Violent Night was a surprise hit at the box-office taking in a solid $50 million despite some very violent action scenes for a movie set around Christmastime. This film was like a very wild Home Alone and audiences seemed to like it a lot. It received a solid “B+” CinemaScore grade from audiences polled on the movie’s opening night. Now, David Harbour, the film’s star, has said that a sequel should still be in the works when the strike resolves itself. Fans of the first movie couldn’t be more excited.

Harbour has even gone as far to say that a whole cinematic universe could be drawn from this material. Harbour played a tough Santa Claus in the first film. Santa took no nonsense from the villains in it. Harbour and director Tommy Wirkola have helped suggest that characters like the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny could join Santa Claus in future movies. Wirkola pointed to elves and Mrs. Claus as being potential key ingredients in future Violent Night pictures.

While Harbour’s big summer action movie, Gran Turismo, has been delayed two weeks itself due to the strike, one may want to catch up with Violent Night. The film (which was released last holiday season) is great fun and co-stars John Leguizamo as the chief bad guy in the movie. Leguizamo’s performance was just about what you’d expect from a seasoned performer like Leguizamo. Watching Santa face off with Leguizamo’s mercenary character provided some of the best action at the movies last December.

Picturing a cinematic world of holiday-themed characters could work out well for the Violent Night franchise. It is rare to see too many “R-rated” action series pictures these days save for the John Wick movies. Violent Night has the potential to follow in John Wick‘s footsteps. That’s because Violent Night, like the John Wick films, features exaggerated scenes of violence that are definitely crowd-pleasing to behold.

Many expect the two-and-a-quarter hour film, Gran Turismo, which showcases Harbour in a key role within the movie, to be the biggest August release of this summer. Orlando Bloom is the star of the movie. The video game inspired picture was held back for two weeks due to the strike but should speed to number one at the box-office when it finally opens on August 25th. As for Violent Night 2, look back frequently for updates regarding the project which sounds like it will be a great time indeed.
