WATCHMEN: HBO Developing TV Series Based on Zack Snyder’s Film

Watchmen

Zack Snyder Developing Watchmen TV Series with HBO. Watchmen may not have been a big hit for Zack Snyder, but he hasn’t given up on it yet, even turning towards the small screen. Which is why Snyder is looking to develop the popular graphic novel into a TV series with HBO.

Collider first broke news that the Batman v Superman director sat down with HBO recently to talk about the possibility of making a TV series on his first superhero flick, 2009’s Watchmen. The project is still early in development, so there hasn’t been anymore information on whether the series would be a retelling of the original story, a prequel, or even a sequel.

Seeing that this would be a big project for Snyder to add on to his plate full of DC films he’s doing, including the two-part Justice League film, there won’t be any development on the Watchmen TV series until probably 2017 or 2018. There is potential that this would become the next big hit for HBO after Game of Thrones finishes it’s run of the small screen before potentially becoming a movie to close out the series.

Watchmen was a very unique film in the superhero genre for Zack Snyder before he helmed Man of Steel and the DCEU. The film adaptation of Alan Moore’s critically acclaimed comic book series was a big hit with critics, but it didn’t go big in the box office. It wasn’t the hit that Warner Bros. wanted out of the film after making $185 million on a budget of $130 million. However, it did gain a huge following after it’s home release with the Director’s Cut and Ultimate Cut. So a TV series based on the comics could be a great way to bring the franchise back and make it successful.

What do you guys think of a Watchmen TV show? Are you excited that the comic series may soon come to our small screens soon?
