Snake Eyes Revealed
Mar 21st, 2008 by filmbook
The first pic of Ray Park as Snake Eyes in the Stephen Sommers directed film of the popular 80’s cartoon G.I. Joe landed on the net last night.
Personally, I’m not looking forward to this film. It will not be as intense as Batman Begins or the upcoming The Dark Knight. The operatives and soldiers of G.I. Joe and Cobra will be fighting a clandestine war with little or no blood because of Hasbro. Expect bloodless sword battles, soldiers that can’t aim their rifles and grenades that don’t splatter their victims or that kill them behind an onscreen obstruction. One bright spot in the film, other than the presence of Sienna Miller, is that Alan Silvestri is scoring the film. If you’ve seen Predator and Beowulf, you know how good he is and what he brings to the table. G.I. Joe lands in theaters August 7, 2009.

I like it, but strictly from a toy come to life perspective. I guess if they go with a PG-13 rating, they ca get away with some good gunfights and fistfights, look at what can be done with the LOTR films and even Transformers, it doesn’t have to go the Rambo route but then again GIJoe was never nothing like it.
That is true but Sommer has never directed a LOTR-level fight scene or sequence.
If I was convinced enough to see a Bay-Bruckheimer led Transformers in the theater, I’ll sure as hell be there for GI Joe, which I was a much bigger fan of as a kid (though I liked Transformers, don’t get me wrong). I’ve seen that pic floating around, and I think it looks cheesy, which Snake Eyes never was, but casting Ray Park is pretty inspired. Now I gotta see who’s playing Storm Shadow (oughta be Park as well, considering the likeness between the characters…).
I’m not looking forward to this film but I will see it. I loved GI JOE and Transformers as a kid as well. Also Robotech, Voltron, Tranzor-Z and He-Man.
Storm Shadow has already been chosen. An Asian actor is playing him.
