In this edition of Superhero RSS, we will cover:

Samuel L. Jackson May Appear as Captain Marvel

We haven’t seen Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a while since Avengers: Age of Ultron. The next films that the former SHIELD director will be appearing in is Avengers: Infinity War and it’s sequel. We Got This Covered spoke with Samuel L. Jackson on what’s coming up for his character. He touched on having his own solo film as well as teasing a possible appearance in Captain Marvel in a few years. However, don’t expect him to be showing up in Black Panther.

Yeah, I’d love to do a Nick Fury movie. I’m always open and game. But they got Infinity Wars, two movies to do there, and after that there’s Brie [Larson’s] movie Captain Marvel, which maybe [Nick] will be part of. Also, I asked them, “So you’re doing Black Panther and the only black character in the Marvel Universe is not showing up?” And they’re like, “Nick Fury is not in Wakanda!” How can he not know the other black superhero on the planet? How the hell does that work? But they just said, ‘No you’re not in that one.’

So we may be seeing Jackson coming on board for another superhero film beyond Avengers. What do you think about this?

David Thewlis to Play Ares in Wonder Woman

Some bits of information surfaced last month when a French magazine revealed that Ares would be the main villain for the film Wonder Woman. We also saw some figures of Ares’ armor becoming a part of the line of toys for the upcoming feature. Batman-News shared an exclusive report on who will be playing the God of War himself. It turns out that Harry Potter star David Thewlis would be playing Ares in Wonder Woman. With a mix of CGI and practical effects, the British actor would be portraying the villain on screen. Seeing no CGI in the film must be the reason why we haven’t seen Ares in any of the trailers. The studio might be working on it so we could expect to see him in another trailer soon. What do you think of David Thewlis as Ares? Wonder Woman is expected to hit theaters on June 2nd, 2017.

Matt Reeves Leaving the Director’s Chair for The Batman

It looks like the upcoming Batman film will have to do the movie without Matt Reeves. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that despite negotiations with the director, Reeves has left the project. However, the studio is looking to make the film regardless. Warner Bros. did specify that talks might continue with Reeves once things start to cool down. Other directors on the shortlist to direct are Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez. Ben Affleck was supposed to direct but he left in order to focus more on his performance as the Dark Knight. If Matt Reeves won’t direct, who do you think should helm the new Batman film?

Dwayne Johnson on Black Adam Becoming a Hero

With so many films coming out for the DCEU, we can see some of the characters taking cue from the comics. One example would be Black Adam, who is initially a villain who then turns into a hero. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson recently spoke with ComicBook.com about his view of Black Adam as a hero. “It’s really our interpretation, and who we deem a hero. Yes, of course, in the mythology Black Adam is a villain. Or he can be considered an antihero. Or to some, he’s a hero. To some who have a black heart like me,” he said. The actor also admired the origin story for Black Adam as well and hopes to show that into the film.

Again, I love the backstory that he started off as a slave and he was held down. And I think when that kinda backstory about a man who’s held down and he rises up out of that to become greater and then dealing with the conflict of pain of losing his family, it’s dark, but it, uh, also adds to the gravity and adds to the weight of the story. So what does it mean for the movie? It means the movie’s gonna be fantastic and it means that it’s gonna be badass. And it means to me he’s a hero.

Naomi Scott Discusses Why She Likes Being the Pink Ranger

Naomi Scott may soon become a household name once audiences see her portray Kimberly and her alter ego the Pink Ranger in Power Rangers. Speaking with W Magazine, she spoke about her character’s struggle to find her identity after ditching her popularity in school behind. “I have an opportunity here to maybe delve a little bit deeper,” Scott said. “I love her because I think she’s real. I think she’s really smart. And I think she’s got a maturity as well.” She also added, “If they wanted a flipping gymnast, they shouldn’t have cast me.” We shall see how her version turns out once Power Rangers comes out in theaters on March 24th, 2017.

Clip From Supergirl Episode Mr. and Mrs. Mxyzptlk

We have our first clip from the upcoming episode of Supergirl titled ‘Mr. and Mrs. Mxyzptlk’. In it, we see Mr. Mxyzptlk (Peter Gadiot) makes his appearance at Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) apartment to ask for his hand. It certainly takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) off guard as he tries to get rid of the magical imp, however, he gets outsmarted by him and gets teleported to the DEO with slightly less clothing. It looks like Mr. Mxyzptlk hopes to get rid of the competition to get Kara for himself. We will see if he gets successful when the episode airs tomorrow at 8PM on The CW.
