Michael Sarnoski Slated to Direct the Next A Quiet Place Movie

Critically praised filmmaker Michael Sarnoski is in discussions to direct the next A Quiet Place film from Paramount.

This past summer of 2021 was known for a few big triumphs. One major financial success was the box-office performance of A Quiet Place Part II while a huge critical achievement was how well the Nicolas Cage film, Pig, did with movie reviewers. Now, the director of Pig, Michael Sarnoski, is said to be poised to take over directing duties from John Krasinski (who helmed the previous two A Quiet Place films) on the next installment in the A Quiet Place series.

Actually, Krasinski wasn’t seemingly planning to direct the third film in the wildly popular franchise. Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) was originally going to make the upcoming spinoff movie. Sarnoski is now attached to the highly anticipated project instead. There have been no major plot details revealed for the film as of yet.

Michael Sarnoski did something this past year that nobody thought was possible. In Pig, he directed Nicolas Cage to what could lead to Cage’s first Oscar nomination in quite some time. Many had simply written Cage off completely as a distinguished actor especially after Willy’s Wonderland, a Cage vehicle where the actor had no dialogue. Whether or not Cage gets the Academy Award recognition, Pig currently holds a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Tomorrow, SAG nominations are going to be announced and some insiders believe Cage has a real shot at a nomination for Best Actor.

It will be a big jump for Sarnoski to take on the creature themed A Quiet Place series. In Pig, Sarnoski concentrated mostly on character development to tell his unique and complex story. He will now be able to focus on keeping the horror movie franchise alive with the action and suspense for which Krasinski’s previous two films are well known for.

A Quiet Place Part II earned a whopping $160 million in the middle of a pandemic at the domestic box-office. It was one of the past year’s biggest hits. The third film in the series, as previously stated, will be a spinoff movie so it’s unclear right now how much it will closely resemble the first two pictures.

While Sarnoski could be considered a long shot for a Best Director Oscar nomination for Pig, stranger things have happened, and the filmmaker is most definitely deserving of a nod. It all depends on several factors, but it would most likely be agreed that the acclaimed director has gotten one of the year’s most moving performances from Cage. Sarnoski seems like the perfect candidate to take over directing duties for the A Quiet Place series and many will be looking to see this upcoming film judging from the box-office performances of the previous two films in the franchise. This new movie is expected in 2023.
