Alone at Dawn Casts Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway

Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway have joined the cast of director Ron Howard‘s Amazon MGM military drama, Alone at Dawn.

Ron Howard is following up his smart box-office disappointment, Eden, with a factual new military drama, Alone at Dawn. It is about a man named John Chapman who fought while wounded in order to save his team and, as a result, he was awarded the Medal of Honor after his passing. This sounds like just the type of inspirational story Ron Howard was born to tell. Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway have been cast in principal roles in the forthcoming project. The book the film is based on was co-written by Lori Chapman Longfritz who is Chapman’s sister.

Howard is no stranger to stories about human beings triumphing against all odds. His movies A Beautiful Mind and Thirteen Lives come to mind as examples of films about the potential power and resilience of the human spirit. Howard won the Academy Award for Best Director for 2001’s A Beautiful Mind. Thirteen Lives featured an initially harrowing story that became a deeply moving drama thanks to the heroics of the characters at the film’s center.

Driver is currently featured in the new drama, Father Mother Sister Brother which is slated to open in December and, just this past weekend, was the centerpiece of the New York Film Festival. Driver has worked with many great filmmakers such as his last collaborator Jim Jarmusch and Noah Baumbach. Hathaway is hard at work on The Devil Wears Prada 2 and she recently finished filming The Odyssey. Driver will be portraying John Chapman and the actor has a background as a Marine that gives him the knowledge that will help him play the role accurately. Jake Gyllenhaal had previously been attached to the role, but had to withdraw from the project. Gyllenhaal had appeared with Hathaway in the past in Love & Other Drugs.

Ron Howard proved with Eden that he’s a director of the highest caliber even if the project didn’t live up to expectations at the box-office. Howard has a diverse resume of making motion pictures which include comedies like Splash as well as heavy dramas and it’s that ability to tell all different types of stories that makes Howard stand-out as one of the most prolific and interesting filmmakers working today. Expect Alone at Dawn to showcase Driver and Hathaway at their finest if Howard’s direction is up to par with hie previous dramatic films. Howard has made films in five different decades now and is one of our most cherished filmmakers.
