Rob Lowe Cast in an Upcoming Cameron Diaz Romantic Comedy

Rob Lowe Cast in an Upcoming Cameron Diaz Romantic Comedy

TV Star Rob Lowe Set to Return to Movies

Rob Lowe is set to appear in a supporting role in an upcoming comedy from Amazon MGM which is yet untitled, but is said to star Cameron Diaz.

Rob Lowe was a member of the Brat Pack back in the 1980’s. Lowe was prominently featured in the film version of The Outsiders and the quintessential college graduate movie from 1985, St. Elmo’s Fire. In that 1985 film, he appeared with Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy and Demi Moore, to name just a few. He also appeared in the original Youngblood, the thriller Masquerade and the 80’s sex dramedy, About Last Night, not to mention smaller roles in comedies like the Chris Farley/David Spade starrer, Tommy Boy. These days, Lowe has been seen on television on hit drama shows such as 9-1-1: Lone Star. Now, he’s been cast in a side role in the new Cameron Diaz/Stephen Merchant romantic comedy that is currently in the works from Amazon MGM. Seth Rogen is among the producers of the forthcoming film.

Cameron Diaz is starting to slowly make her way back into the limelight. She will be playing a struggling comedienne who takes an offer from a British hotel worker (Merchant) to get married so she will obtain health insurance for herself. The action is said to be taking place in New York City – where else? While Lowe’s part in the film hasn’t been made exactly clear, it marks a return to the movies for Lowe who’s grown comfortable in television over the past several years.

Lowe was something of a sex symbol in his day and the actor has garnered an impressive resume over the years that started with his work in teenage movies from the 1980’s like Class. Lowe has become a staple on 9-1-1 Lone Star and proven he has what it takes to keep his career rolling even into his older years. Now, playing opposite Cameron Diaz will be a big leap for Lowe. Diaz is back in the movies again too after taking a break for a while to focus on her personal life. Diaz was a big star in the 1990’s for her work in movies like the Jim Carrey vehicle, The Mask and the mega-hit There’s Something About Mary where she played with Matt Dillon, also of The Outsiders.

Stephen Merchant and Cameron Diaz may be playing the lovers in this yet untitled upcoming romantic comedy, but Lowe’s fans are probably anxious to see what role the accomplished Lowe will be assuming in the new movie. It sounds like the film has all the perfect ingredients for a love story geared more towards middle aged viewers. We’ll see when it is eventually titled and ultimately released. Sherry Cola and Judith Light are among the other stars showcased in supporting roles in the forthcoming movie that will feature Lowe.
