Milana Vayntrub To Co-Star in Film with 2 Oscar Nominees

Funny lady Milana Vayntrub of those humorous AT&T commercials will be co-starring with 2 heavy hitters in an upcoming movie to be shot in IMAX, Project Hail Mary.

Amazon MGM has an upcoming prestige film project based on a book by Andy Weir (The Martian) called Project Hail Mary and it has been reported that America’s favorite AT&T spokesperson, Milana Vayntrub, will have a key role in the picture. At the same time, Vayntrub’s festival fan fave, Bad Shabbos, grabbed the Audience award at Tribeca, making Vayntrub an “it” girl at the current moment.

Project Hail Mary will feature Ryan Gosling in the principal role as a middle school teacher who mysteriously finds himself on a spaceship. When, he encounters an alien (nicknamed “Rocky” in Weir’s book) trying to save his own kind, things begin to really get interesting. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will be helming this picture which is positioned for a release in March 2026.

Those who knows Vayntrub’s film work will remember her turn in another Tribeca “fave” from a few years ago, Werewolves Within, where she had a secret role that was much more than the mail carrier Vayntrub’s character appeared to be on the surface. Vayntrub proved her keen sense of humor on the AT&T commercials was no fluke and gave an intriguing performance in Werewolves Within.

Bad Shabbos, however, just recently showed that Vayntrub is an actress with tremendous range as she played a supporting part in the picture that helped fuel the laughs that made the film score big with Tribeca Festival audiences. Project Hail Mary is the perfect big studio production that will bring Vayntrub’s talents to a much wider film audience than her previous projects have.

Besides Oscar-nominee Gosling, the great Academy Award-nominated actress, Sandra Hüller of the dramatic gem Anatomy of a Fall fame, has also joined Project Hail Mary so Vayntrub is in some very prestigious company. This is the type of film project that could launch a character actress like Vayntrub’s career and make her a much bigger star than she already is.

Project Hail Mary is going to be a fascinating film with a lot of depth, judging from the quality of Weir’s book of the same name. Kirkus Reviews called the book, “An unforgettable story of survival and the power of friendship—nothing short of a science-fiction masterwork.” Weir’s book also received a starred review from Kirkus.

Milana Vayntrub’s incredibly funny timing makes her something of a comic genius and it will be interesting for her fans to see her performance in the upcoming Amazon MGM film when it is released in 2026.
