Cameron Diaz Set to Come Back On Screen in Forthcoming Movie

Cameron Diaz will be returning to the screen in an upcoming Netflix movie titled Back in Action.

There’s something about Cameron Diaz. It’s been too long since we last saw her on screen in the 2014 remake of Annie. In 2011, Cameron Diaz played in the hilarious dark comedy, Bad Teacher, but the highlight of her career thus far has been her roles in-between the years 1994 and 2006. Now, she’s set to star opposite Oscar winner Jamie Foxx in the Netflix action-comedy, Back in Action.

Cameron Diaz retired officially in 2018 but is now slated to resurrect her film career. Diaz also worked as an author and had two books released before she announced her departure from movies: The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body and The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time. These books helped bring her writing into the public view. Her greatest successes, however, were in her film career where she was one of Hollywood’s biggest box-office draws. Except for a few duds like A Life Less Ordinary, the Shrek voice-over performer for Princess Fiona, Diaz, was a reliable performer who rarely failed in her movie parts.

Diaz came on to the scene big time with her role in 1994’s Jim Carrey comedy, The Mask, and in 1998, she made the hilarious Farrelly Brothers film, There’s Something About Mary which continued her successful run in romantic comedies (it followed 1997’s Julia Roberts hit in which Diaz co-starred: My Best Friend’s Wedding). Diaz also played in independent films like Edward Burns’ She’s the One in which Diaz co-starred with Jennifer Aniston. It was in 2001, though, that Diaz revealed her phenomenal dramatic acting chops in the Tom Cruise vehicle, Vanilla Sky. Many believe Diaz was robbed of an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for that 2001 Cameron Crowe picture.

Diaz also appeared in the lead female role in Martin Scorsese’s 2002 Oscar nomination bait, Gangs of New York. Before that one, another of her more popular parts was in 2000’s Charlie’s Angels, a successful action-comedy. Diaz, who co-starred with Kate Winslet in 2006’s enjoyable romantic comedy, The Holiday, was an actress who demonstrated tremendous range and it is going to be great to see her back on screen working again–especially opposite the always reliable Foxx.

Seth Gordon will be directing the Netflix picture Back in Action which will get Diaz’ feet wet and help her come back into the movie business full force if she chooses to. She’s been gone way too long! Diaz may even make her way back on to the silver screen if audiences welcome her back with open arms which will almost certainly happen given Diaz’ mostly successful past roles and her tremendous likability factor.
